Emergency numbers
If a life is in danger, call the emergency number first.
Good to know here
- Around Sultanahmet and Taksim Square in Istanbul, bar and club overcharging, the dropped shoe-brush trick and taxi fare scams are common. Tourist areas have Tourist Police (Turizm Polisi).

Before you go
Mobile data (eSIM)
If you get sick or lose something in Türkiye, maps, translation and calling for help all need data. Install an eSIM before you fly and it works as soon as you land.
Airport transfers and transport
Taxis and directions are the hardest part when you can't speak the language in Türkiye. Booking an airport pickup or transport pass in advance means less to explain on arrival.
